A Shift Towards Premium Technologies: How Monbat Met the New Market Demands at Automechanika Frankfurt 2026

Corporate

The global automotive components market has entered a new phase, characterised by high energy consumption, the rise of smart technologies and increasingly stringent requirements for vehicle reliability. Against this backdrop, the Automechanika Frankfurt 2026 exhibition – the world’s leading forum for the automotive industry and aftermarket services – took place between 8 and 12 September.

The event attracted over 112,000 visitors from 173 countries and more than 4,400 exhibitors, sending a clear signal of a shift in the priorities of distributors and service networks.

For Monbat, the exhibition was characterised by intense commercial activity, a focus on technological development and heightened interest in responsible, premium solutions for light and heavy-duty vehicles.

Analysis of the results: Over 140 strategic contacts

  • Over 60 meetings held with active customers: Key partnerships were reaffirmed and future sales volumes were agreed for the upcoming busy season. Discussions with long-standing distributors focused on expanding the product mix in favour of high-end technologies.
  • Over 80 new contacts (New Leads): Significant interest was noted from new potential partners seeking reliable European suppliers. The new contacts include regional distributors, retail chains and operators of large vehicle fleets from Europe, the Middle East and other key markets.

Analysis of visitor feedback reveals a lasting shift in buyer attitudes: the market demands products with a proven track record, high reliability and a guaranteed long service life.

Demand in the passenger car sector: EFB and AGM Start-Stop as the new standard

The main focus of customers in the passenger car segment was on micro-hybrid solutions – EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) and AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) Start-Stop batteries.

The growing proportion of cars equipped with driver assistance systems, Start-Stop functionality and complex electronics is making standard batteries increasingly unsuitable for the modern vehicle fleet. Dealers are seeking solutions that guarantee a stable power supply, rapid charging and reduced complaint rates – requirements met by Monbat’s AGM and EFB ranges.

Trends in heavy-duty vehicles: A widespread shift towards AGM Super Heavy Duty

The most noticeable change at this year’s exhibition was observed in the heavy-duty and commercial vehicle sector. There is an accelerating shift in the aftermarket towards the highest-grade batteries – AGM Super Heavy Duty (SHD).

Whilst until recently AGM technology in lorries was primarily the choice of OEM manufacturers for installation in new vehicles, today it is becoming a mandatory requirement for the independent aftermarket as well.

The reasons for this change:

  • Increased energy consumption in the cab: The operation of additional electrical loads (air-conditioning systems, refrigerators, electronics) whilst drivers are on breaks places extreme demands on the battery.
  • Minimising downtime: For logistics companies, unplanned downtime due to a flat battery leads to significant financial losses, making investment in AGM SHD technology economically viable.

The high level of interest in Monbat’s AGM Super Heavy Duty series during the exhibition confirmed that the company’s product portfolio fully meets the current needs of international transport fleets.

Strategic conclusions and future development

Monbat’s participation at Automechanika Frankfurt 2026 reinforced the company’s position as a flexible and technologically advanced manufacturer, capable of swiftly addressing changes in demand at a global level.

The high number of meetings held, the generation of over 80 new business contacts and the clear focus on technologically advanced product ranges (EFB, AGM and AGM SHD) provide a solid foundation for expanding the company’s market share in the coming financial years.
