Monbat AD Finishes Pre-Serial Tests of Battery Energy Storage Systems in the Institute of Electrochemistry and Energy Systems “Acad. Evgeni Budevski” at Bulgarian Academy of Sciences

Corporate

Monbat AD is accomplishing successfully pre-serial test of battery energy storage systems (BESS), held in partnership with the Center of  Competence “Hitmobil” (part of IEES-BAS) in their specialized laboratory for testing of renewable energy sources (RES). The test equipment was presented during the visit of representatives of the European Battery Alliance (EBA250), who are in Bulgaria to sign a memorandum with which the country joins as a member of the European initiative for the development of the battery manufacturing sector. Marcin Wasilewski, CEO of InnoEnergy (the leading partner in the European Battery Alliance) and Bogdan Bogdanov, CEO of the InvestBulgaria Agency (IBA) reviewed the results of the successful laboratory tests of the BESS prototypes, developed by Monbat for industrial manufacturing. The director of IEES-BAS, Corresponding Member Prof. Evelina Slavcheva, presented the joint research project and noted the benefits of the long-term cooperation between the Institute and the leading European manufacturer of lead-acid batteries.

Monbat is intended to commercialize BESS, offering a wide range of systems based on lithium-ion modules, but also on the proven technology with lead-acid high-cycle carbon industrial batteries. Our ambition is to offer on both the Bulgarian and leading European markets a palette of energy storage solutions, some of which still have no analogues on the market. We welcome the decision of the Bulgarian government to join the Alliance, this is a very positive sign for the industry and the prospects for development in the dynamic battery sector,

Bozhidar Nekeziev, Director of Monbat Industrial Batteries Division, commented.

Monbat has joined EBA250 in 2021. In the last 23 years the company is sustainably working to refine and successfully commercialize new generation of batteries and technologies for improving the effectiveness of their recycling. The new investment priorities of Monbat emphasize on BESS, as well as on some avant-garde technologies, aimed at improving the performance of the established lead-acid industrial batteries and the reduction of the product carbon footprint.
